We at Lake Washington United Methodist Church seek to offer a variety of study, fellowship, and service activities for children that complement the efforts of parents in nurturing their growth as Christian disciples.
Through our Children’s Ministries at Lake Washington UMC, we seek to provide a positive Christian environment that attracts children's participation and provides a foundation for their own faith journey as Disciples of Christ. We support and provide programs and material to augment the learning in the home - to lead children to Christian attitudes and actions.
We encourage parents to sit down with their children and review the Sunday school papers they bring home. Go over the biblical story they heard in Sunday school, share prayers at mealtime and devotional times, and help children know how to relate to God, to people, and to situations as Christ’s disciples.
We are here to serve you. Please let us know how we can best be in ministry to you and your child.
Children’s Sunday School
We have three age-group classes: 3 & 4 years old, Kindergartners & First Graders, and Second through Fourth Graders, from September 11, 2011 through June 3, 2012. The 3 & 4 years old class begins at 10 am. Classes for Kindergartners through Fourth Graders begin at 10:15 am. Children in 5th & 6th grade are invited to be a class assistant, participate in the 2nd- 4th grade class, or worship with their families. Children are always welcome to worship with their families.
The Three & Four year olds and the Kindergarten and First Grade Classes will be using Living the Good News curriculum. Engaging Bible stories, songs, crafts, games, and prayer help younger children remember what they’ve learned. Spark Activate Faith is the curriculum we will be using for the Second, Third and Fourth Grade Class. The older children focus on the Bible story and scripture for the week as they participate in group activities, crafts, games and prayer that guide them in questioning and exploring.
Living the Good News and Spark are based on the cycle of Bible readings known as the lectionary. Together, families will be able to share their experiences of the Bible and talk about their discoveries.
Mission Outreach
The Children's Sunday School offerings go to sponsor Jalineda Pierre. Jalineda lives on a little Island, Lagonave Island very near Haiti, with her father and mother and four siblings. Her family is very poor. Our sponsorship through Compassion International allows the staff of Grande Plaine Child Development Center to provide Jalineda with Bible teaching, medical care, health and hygiene education, recreational activities, educational classes, scholastic materials and uniforms. The center staff also provides meetings and educational workshops for Jalineda's parents.Acolytes and Bible Bearers
Adults and Children may serve as an Acolyte or Bible Bearer for the 10:00 am worship services.
