We at Lake Washington United Methodist Church seek to offer a variety of study and fellowship activities for children that complement the efforts of parents in nurturing their growth as Christian disciples.
Through our Children’s Ministries at Lake Washington UMC, we seek to provide a positive Christian environment that attracts children's participation and provides a foundation for their own faith journey as Disciples of Christ. We support and provide programs and material to augment the learning in the home - to lead children to Christian attitudes and actions.
We encourage parents to sit down with their children and review the Sunday school papers they bring home. Go over the biblical story they heard in Sunday school, share prayers at mealtime and devotional times, and help children know how to relate to God, to people, and to situations as Christ’s disciples.
We are here to serve you. Please let us know how we can best be in ministry to you and your child.
Children’s Sunday School
The Sunday school program at Lake Washington UMC strives to encourage and enable home and family based Christian Education.
Children LIVE B.I.G. in Sunday School. Live B.I.G. is an exciting, new and different approach to Sunday School. It's all about children living their Belief In God. It seems like a simple idea, but from our own experience we know it's a day-to-day effort that requires love, support, and nurturing within our faith families. The goal of the Live B.I.G. curriculum is to engage children with inviting stories, role models, sights, and sounds that provide a foundation for Christian living that leads them to experience and mirror God in their everyday lives.
This B.I.G. (Belief In God) News this fall is
- God Created the World: God made earth, God made plants & animals, we are made in God's image, and God rested;
- Jesus is the Messiah: Jesus and Peter, Jesus and the disciples, Jesus and the children, Jesus and Peter's mother-in-law, and Jesus and the woman at the well;
- It Is Good to Give Thanks: Noah gives thanks, Miriam gives thanks, one leper gives thanks, and a dance of thanks.
A DVD for each theme features actors acting out life situations, music clips, interviews with churches and mission projects, and art, photos, and videos that illustrate the Bible story. Children can live the Sunday lesson all week long with fun games and activities on iLiveBIG.com.
Live B.I.G. is at 11:30 to 12:15 pm each Sunday. Classes are for children three years of age through Fifth Graders.
Acolytes and Bible Bearers
Children in second grade through sixth grade may serve as an Acolyte or Bible Bearer for the 10:00am worship services. Acolytes bring the light at the beginning of the worship service and take the light out at the end of the service. The Bible Bearer brings in the Bible at the beginning of the worship service and takes the Bible out at the end of the service. For more information contact the church office.
Music Ministry
We offer choirs for young people from three years of age through sixth grade, with singing assistantships available for seventh and eighth graders. Please go to Music Ministries or contact Stephanie Miller at the church for more information about this exciting music/educational ministry.
Tweeners

Nursery Ministry
Nursery care is offered for children up to three years old for the Sunday Worship services and during the Sunday morning Education hour. In the Nursery, we provide a loving and safe environment. It is a place where children can experience the love of God and Jesus through others.
Children in Worship
Children are an integral part of our church family. All our worship services are intergenerational. Children have opportunities to participate as worship leaders in a variety of ways.
Special Events
Throughout the year we have special seasonal events for children. In early December we have an Advent Fair and on Christmas Eve the Living Nativity Worship Service at 6 pm. Our Annual Easter Egg Hunt is on the Saturday before Easter. In June children provide all the leadership for one of the morning worship services. During the summer we offer Vacation Bible Camp and a variety of Church camps.
